After a video surfaced showing a civic volunteer associated with West Bengal Police assaulting a truck driver for not paying extortion money, Leader of Opposition Suvendu Adhikari criticized the state government. Adhikari shared the video on social media to bring attention to the incident. He accused the Mamata Banerjee government of fostering “institutional corruption” where police demand money during vehicle checks, resorting to violence if not paid.
In the video, Adhikari highlighted the collaboration between police and civic volunteers in extorting money from drivers, emphasizing that such actions are illegal. He alleged that the incident occurred on February 19 at Dankuni toll plaza in Hooghly district. Adhikari urged authorities to identify and take legal action against the volunteer responsible, claiming that such actions are enabled by the government’s tacit support.
The BJP leader called for immediate action against the volunteer involved in the assault, emphasizing the need to address the prevailing situation in the state. Adhikari criticized the Trinamool government, stating that a change is necessary to prevent such abuses of power.
