Haji Syed Salman Chishty, a cleric from Ajmer Sharif Dargah and Chairman of the Chishty Foundation, engaged in a significant diplomatic meeting with Ambassador Neelam Rani, the Consul General of India in St. Petersburg. The discussion aimed at enhancing the bond between India and Russia through art, culture, spiritual traditions, and people-to-people connections, as per Dargah officials.

During Chishty’s official visit to Russia, encompassing St. Petersburg and Moscow, the focus was on expanding the longstanding India-Russia partnership beyond defense and trade. Both sides emphasized cultural outreach and spiritual heritage as crucial avenues for collaboration. Proposals discussed included cultural festivals, Sufi music events, classical art exchanges, and joint exhibitions reflecting shared traditions.

The dialogue also highlighted the importance of interfaith harmony and spiritual cooperation. Chishty emphasized the Sufi principle of “peace with all,” resonating with Russia’s diverse religious landscape, particularly regions like Tatarstan, Dagestan, Bashkortostan, and the Caucasus known for their rich Sufi traditions. The discussions explored avenues for structured interfaith dialogues, academic exchanges, and joint spiritual initiatives to transform shared heritage into active partnerships.

Recognizing that enduring international relationships are built on human connections, both parties identified youth exchanges, academic collaborations, and cultural immersion programs as key areas of focus. These initiatives aim to broaden the scope of bilateral relations beyond official frameworks. Additionally, the conversation touched upon the historical intellectual ties between India and Russia, including Leo Tolstoy’s interest in Indian philosophy and Mahatma Gandhi’s influence on Russian philosophical thought.

Chishty praised Neelam Rani for embodying India’s civilizational approach to diplomacy and highlighted the shared values of peace and humanity that underpin India-Russia relations. He reiterated his dedication to spreading the message of harmony associated with Khwaja Gharib Nawaz across borders. The Indian envoy welcomed Chishty’s visit, acknowledging the efforts to showcase India’s spiritual and cultural legacy. She expressed the Consulate’s backing for initiatives that enhance cultural bonds and reinforce people-to-people connections between the two nations.
