New Delhi, Aug 8 (IANS) Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Saturday met Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president Nitin Nabin in New Delhi.

Taking to social media, the Chief Minister shared the photographs of his respective meetings. “Today, I had a heartfelt meeting with the visionary of ‘New India’, the esteemed Prime Minister Shri @narendramodi ji in New Delhi,” he posted in Hindi on the social media platform X.

In the short message, he also thanked the Prime Minister for his continued guidance and inspiration. “Your guidance inspires me to remain ceaselessly dynamic on the path of good governance. Heartfelt thanks, Prime Minister ji, for granting this valuable time,” he added.

He also posted the news of visiting the BJP president a few moments earlier. “Today, in New Delhi, I paid a courtesy visit to the honourable National President of @BJP4India, Shri @NitinNabin ji,” he wrote in Hindi on X.

The meetings come months before Assembly elections are due in Uttar Pradesh, where principal Opposition Samajwadi Party (SP) has upped its ante over issues like the alleged misappropriation of Ram Temple funds in Ayodhya.

Meanwhile, the Monsoon Session of Parliament, which is nearing an end this month, has been witnessing aggressive demonstrations by the Opposition parties on the same issue, apart from others, like the exam-paper leaks and the subsequent student protests.

SP chief Akhilesh Yadav, himself an MP from Uttar Pradesh’s Kannauj Lok Sabha constituency, has been at the forefront of these protests, lending full support to the Congress party. He has been particularly upbeat after a good showing in the 2024 Lok Sabha election, where in alliance with the Grand Old Party of India, the SP picked up 43 of the state’s 80 Parliamentary seats – an increase of some 37 over its 2019 show.

The BJP managed to win 36 seats in the last general election, losing 28 in comparison to 2019.

In Parliament, the uproar in both Houses has led to frequent adjournments, holding up important business, though the treasury bench has been able to pass some important Bills in this Session.
