Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal revealed that 40 metric tonnes of biscuits from Varanasi have been exported to Oman under the India-Oman CEPA. Additionally, a memorandum of understanding has been inked for supplying around 700 metric tonnes of biscuits to Oman and other GCC countries by 2026–27. The preferential tariff benefits provided by CEPA have enabled duty-free entry for Indian-produced biscuits, enhancing their competitiveness in the Oman market.
The implementation of the India-Oman CEPA, signed during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Muscat on December 18, 2025, commenced on June 1. Bilateral trade between India and Oman has been significantly bolstered, with trade amounting to $10.61 billion in FY 2024–25, compared to $8.94 billion in the previous fiscal year. Notably, trade during April–October 2025 reached $6.48 billion, showcasing the growing economic ties between the two nations.
The CEPA between India and Oman encompasses various aspects such as trade in goods and services, investment, professional mobility, and regulatory cooperation, fostering deeper economic integration between the two countries. Rather than concentrating on specific sectors or tariff reductions, the agreement aims to promote sustained and extensive economic collaboration. By facilitating trade, encouraging investments, and enhancing cooperation in key sectors, the CEPA aims to unlock new opportunities for labor-intensive industries, services, and emerging areas of collaboration.
