Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal announced the successful export of fresh litchis from Ummat Agri Allied Cooperative Society in Hoshiarpur, Punjab, to Oman. This export, made possible by the India–Oman CEPA, aims to boost farmers’ income and enhance the global recognition of Indian agricultural products. Goyal also praised the Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) for their efforts in this initiative.
In a separate development, Goyal celebrated the export of Uttarakhand’s renowned litchis to Italy, marking a significant milestone in expanding Indian agricultural products into European markets. With APEDA’s support, Dehradun litchis have now become a favorite in Italy, showcasing the growing global recognition of Indian agricultural goods.
Furthermore, Assam’s Tezpur litchis, known for their exceptional sweetness, aroma, and juicy pulp, made their debut in the global market with the first consignment shipped to Dubai. This export not only boosts the reputation of Tezpur litchis but also provides a significant opportunity for fruit growers in Assam. Recognized with a Geographical Indication (GI) tag in 2014, Tezpur litchis are appreciated for their unique qualities tied to the region’s agro-climatic conditions.
The successful exports of litchis from different regions of India underscore the country’s growing presence in international fresh-fruit markets. These initiatives not only promote premium produce from diverse regions but also highlight the rich horticultural potential of India, contributing to the global recognition of Indian agricultural products.
