Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal emphasized that India has safeguarded its national interests in all trade agreements, securing the best deal with the US compared to other countries. Speaking at the ‘Raisina Dialogue 2026,’ Goyal praised the robust relationship between New Delhi and Washington, noting the positive remarks made by US President Donald Trump about India and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Goyal highlighted the significance of the India-US trade partnership, describing it as strong and multi-dimensional. He mentioned the ongoing bilateral trade discussions with the United States, emphasizing the protection of sensitive dairy and farm sectors in the proposed trade arrangement. Despite global challenges, Goyal expressed optimism about India’s increasing exports this year.
The minister underscored the need for vigilance in light of changing circumstances, particularly regarding US tariffs. He mentioned the possibility of a trade agreement rebalancing to ensure India’s best interests are preserved. Goyal reiterated that the evolving situation necessitates continuous monitoring and dialogue to maintain a balanced trade relationship with the US.
