The Commission for Air Quality Management in NCR and Adjoining Areas (CAQM) identified 28 instances of visible road dust and construction and demolition waste accumulation during a recent inspection in Noida. Nineteen flying squad teams, appointed by the Commission, surveyed 46 road segments under the Noida Authority’s jurisdiction. The focus was on evaluating road dust levels and the effectiveness of cleaning operations.
The inspection revealed 28 cases of prominent road dust and waste accumulation in various areas, including Sectors 20, 21, 59, 62, 80, 82, 83, 84, 87, 88, 138, 140, 141, and 145. It highlighted shortcomings in regular sweeping, dust control measures, and proper handling of construction and demolition waste at specific locations. Authorities have been instructed to enhance dust control by implementing mechanized sweeping, targeted water sprinkling, and prompt waste removal.
The Commission directed concerned bodies to intensify efforts in mitigating dust pollution through effective measures. It emphasized the importance of strict enforcement to prevent unauthorized dumping and ensure compliance with environmental standards. Negligence in implementing dust control measures will be taken seriously, with officers being held accountable for any lapses. Continuous vigilance, improved maintenance practices, and accountability-driven dust control implementation are crucial in combating particulate pollution.
The Commission reiterated its commitment to conducting ‘Operation Clean Air’ drives in Delhi-NCR to identify and address air pollution hotspots. Agencies and officials have pledged to take necessary corrective actions based on the findings from the inspection drive.
