The Commonwealth Youth Games 2027 will commence in Malta with the opening ceremony on October 29, followed by a six-day sports schedule from October 30 to November 4. Around 1,200 athletes aged 14 to 18 from 74 nations and territories across the Commonwealth will participate. The Games will feature eight disciplines including swimming, athletics, netball, sailing, squash, triathlon, water polo, and weightlifting, with competitions held at seven venues in Malta and Gozo.
Malta is gearing up to host the largest para sport program in the history of the Commonwealth Youth Games at Malta 2027. This edition will also witness the debut of sailing and water polo in the youth event. The Games aim to provide young athletes with a global platform and serve as a pathway to elite senior competitions. Since its inception in 2000 in Edinburgh, the Commonwealth Youth Games have seen over 6,000 athletes participating, with the most recent edition in Trinidad and Tobago in 2023 being the largest so far.
Commonwealth Sport Chief Executive Katie Sadleir expressed excitement for Malta 2027, highlighting the competitive atmosphere and world-class facilities that will offer a transformative experience to young athletes. Malta’s Minister for Sport, Clifton Grima, emphasized the development of state-of-the-art infrastructure for the Games, aiming to benefit local communities and future generations.
