West Bengal Pradesh Congress Committee President Subhankar Sarkar stated that the internal divisions within the Trinamool Congress are a strategy by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to establish a pseudo-Opposition in the state, ultimately aligning with the ruling party’s directives. Sarkar highlighted the BJP’s aim to maintain the relevance of the Trinamool Congress in West Bengal, emphasizing the BJP’s agenda to sideline the Congress due to its unwavering stance against saffron ideologies.
Acknowledging the Trinamool Congress’s significant defeat in the recent state Assembly elections, Sarkar implied that this outcome has provided an opportunity for the Congress to revitalize its organizational presence in West Bengal. He emphasized that only the Congress can safeguard the fundamental rights and liberties of the state’s populace, particularly praising Rahul Gandhi’s steadfast national leadership on this front, which is expected to enhance Congress’s popularity in the current political landscape.
Sarkar criticized the BJP’s selection of former Trinamool Congress members as candidates for the Rajya Sabha by-elections, viewing it as a strategic infiltration of the saffron party within the Trinamool ranks over an extended period. Additionally, he condemned the extrajudicial killing of a key suspect in a recent case involving the rape and murder of a minor girl in West Bengal, stressing the importance of addressing crimes against women with strict legal measures while upholding the principles of the judicial system.
