The Congress party accuses the Central government of using the women’s reservation issue as a cover to push through a flawed delimitation exercise. Supriya Shrinate, head of the party’s social media wing, highlighted concerns raised by Sonia Gandhi regarding the delimitation process’s fairness, emphasizing the need for equitable representation.
Shrinate criticized the government’s plan to conduct delimitation without updated census data, warning of potential inaccuracies and regional disparities. She questioned the basis for delimitation without current population figures, especially regarding seat reservations for SCs and STs. The delay in census data availability and the exclusion of OBC women from reservations were also raised as key issues.
The Congress spokesperson expressed discontent over the government’s rush to expedite the delimitation process amidst ongoing elections, accusing it of political opportunism. Shrinate called for a comprehensive discussion on the constitutional amendment related to women’s reservation, highlighting the party’s long-standing commitment to women’s empowerment and equitable political representation.
