With doubts looming over former captain Rohit Sharma’s availability for the upcoming IPL match against Punjab Kings, middle-order batsman Naman Dhir has offered to move up the batting order if needed. Dhir, known for finishing games, has previously stepped up to bat higher in the order during last season’s playoffs when Mumbai Indians reached Qualifier 2 but lost to Punjab Kings.
Due to Rohit Sharma’s right hamstring injury suffered in the match against Royal Challengers Bangalore, team management is considering promoting a player to open the innings and shifting Naman Dhir to the middle order. In a pre-match press conference on Wednesday, Dhir expressed his readiness to bat in any position required by the team, citing his past experience batting at the 5th-6th position.
Despite recent underwhelming performances by Mumbai Indians, Dhir remains optimistic about the team’s capabilities to bounce back. He reassured that concerns regarding Rohit’s fitness and Jasprit Bumrah’s form are not a worry, emphasizing their experience and skill. Dhir also highlighted the potential of bowlers like Trent Boult and Bumrah to make significant impacts during matches, particularly in the Power-plays.
