The Congress party has revealed its candidates for four out of the seven seats up for grabs in the upcoming Karnataka polls. The list, unveiled by the All India Congress Committee (AICC), features B.K. Hariprasad, P.V. Mohan, Shivanna Malavalli, and Tippannappa Kamakanur. Notably, all four candidates belong to the Other Backward Classes (OBC), marking a strategic move by the Congress.
The decision to field OBC members for these seats is seen as a significant political move by the Congress in the run-up to the elections. Among the candidates, B.K. Hariprasad and Tippannappa Kamakanur have been re-nominated, while two fresh faces have been given the opportunity to contest for the remaining positions. Hariprasad has also been appointed as the State Congress President.
The four candidates will be vying for seats in the State Legislative Council through a voting process involving MLAs. The election process has been initiated to fill the seven vacant positions in the Karnataka Legislative Council following the retirement of incumbent members. The election timeline sets June 8 as the deadline for filing nominations, with scrutiny scheduled for June 9 and the final date for withdrawal of candidature on June 11.
If necessary, polling will take place on June 18 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at room number 106 in the Vidhana Soudha. Vote counting will commence on the same day from 5 p.m. onwards, with the entire election process expected to conclude by June 20.
