The Congress high command has named Ghulam Ahmed Mir as the All India Congress Committee (AICC) General Secretary for Tamil Nadu and Puducherry. This decision aims to bolster the party’s organization in these regions. Mir’s appointment was disclosed by AICC General Secretary K.C. Venugopal in an official statement from the party headquarters in New Delhi.
Mir, a senior Congress leader from Jammu and Kashmir, brings a wealth of experience to his new role. He has previously held significant organizational and administrative positions within the party. Mir has served as the president of the Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee and also as a minister in the former Jammu and Kashmir government.
Known for his seasoned leadership within the Congress, Mir steps into his new position during a crucial period for the party in Tamil Nadu. Following the recent Assembly elections, the Congress is focused on fortifying its organizational structure in the state. The party is now part of the ruling alliance under Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay’s Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), emphasizing the importance of effective coordination between the central leadership and the state unit.
As the AICC General Secretary in charge, Mir will supervise the operations of the Congress units in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry. His responsibilities include liaising with state leadership on organizational affairs, monitoring political developments, and contributing to the formulation of the party’s strategy in collaboration with the AICC leadership.
Mir’s appointment comes on the heels of B. Manickam Tagore’s promotion as the president of the Tamil Nadu Congress Committee (TNCC), marking a significant organizational restructuring in the state. With a fresh leadership lineup in place, the Congress is poised to intensify its organizational endeavors and enhance its footprint in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry in the coming months.
