After the Supreme Court’s recent directive regarding the Bhojshala-Kamal Maula Mosque complex, the Congress emphasized the need for a thorough judgment to prevent tensions between Hindu and Muslim communities. The apex court declined to halt the Madhya Pradesh High Court’s ruling that designated the disputed site as a Hindu temple. Instead, it instructed the state government to allocate a separate area near the monument for Muslims to offer namaz on Fridays between 1 p.m. and 3 p.m.
Congress leader Sandeep Dikshit expressed confusion over the interim arrangement, suggesting that providing a separate space implies recognition of the Muslim community’s claim. He urged the Supreme Court to avoid partial solutions and thoroughly examine the issue to prevent escalating tensions. Stressing the sensitivity of the matter, Dikshit called for a comprehensive judgment to avert potential conflicts.
Meanwhile, Congress leaders criticized the BJP government for allegedly diverting attention from critical issues by fueling Hindu-Muslim debates. Awaaz Hafeez accused the government of neglecting its responsibility to prevent communal conflicts in Madhya Pradesh. Mukesh Nayak echoed these sentiments, highlighting the need to resolve such disputes swiftly to shift focus to pressing societal concerns.
The Chief Justice of India Surya Kant-led bench urged both sides to exercise patience and assured that the case would be expedited for a final hearing. Additionally, the court safeguarded the protected monument’s status quo by prohibiting the Archaeological Survey of India from making structural changes without prior approval from the Supreme Court.
