Ahead of the upcoming Panchayat Raj and urban local body elections in Rajasthan, Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) president Govind Singh Dotasra has declared that the party will allocate half of its tickets to young candidates. This initiative aims to introduce fresh leadership into grassroots politics. Dotasra made this announcement during a workshop at the Rajiv Gandhi Panchayati Raj Sangathan in Jaipur, emphasizing the Congress’s commitment to enhancing youth involvement in local governance.
The decision to reserve 50% of tickets for youth candidates in the Panchayat and urban body elections is part of the Congress’s strategy to empower emerging leaders at the village, block, and ward levels. Dotasra criticized the BJP government for delaying local body elections and undermining the Panchayati Raj system. He highlighted that the state government’s reluctance to conduct timely elections led to a loss of approximately Rs 300 crore in grants for Panchayati Raj institutions and urban local bodies.
Accusing the government of neglecting development work in villages and towns due to expired terms of elected representatives, Dotasra pointed out increased corruption with administrative officers running local bodies. To strengthen its grassroots network before the polls, the Congress plans to organize extensive meetings in all districts of Rajasthan by July 30. Additionally, Dotasra criticized the BJP government for its handling of competitive examinations, citing irregularities and paper leaks in recent years and demanding resignations from relevant ministers.
