Infighting within the Congress party in Telangana’s Jagtial district has intensified due to disagreements over the allocation of party tickets for municipal elections. Senior leader T. Jeevan Reddy expressed dissatisfaction as his group received 20 tickets while his rival M. Sanjay Kumar’s followers secured 30 tickets for the upcoming elections on February 11.
A significant number of Congress members gathered at Jeevan Reddy’s residence, where he is currently meeting with his supporters to strategize the next steps. Jeevan Reddy and Sanjay Kumar, a former Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) MLA who joined Congress in 2024, are engaged in a contentious battle.
The rivalry between the two factions has led to discord over leadership decisions and ticket distribution. Despite attempts by party leaders to reconcile the differences, Jeevan Reddy remains concerned about Sanjay Kumar’s increasing influence in the district.
The disagreement over ticket allotment has also impacted the municipal elections in Jagtial and Raikal, with Jeevan Reddy’s group expressing displeasure over the perceived favoritism towards Sanjay Kumar’s supporters. This rift has been further exacerbated by the issuance of B-forms by the party to a majority of candidates from Sanjay Kumar’s camp.
