Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee president Harshwardhan Sapkal criticized State Election Commission (SEC) for not taking action against Maharashtra Assembly Speaker Rahul Narwekar. Sapkal alleged that Narwekar pressured opposition candidates to withdraw nominations, allowing his relatives to win unopposed in the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) polls. He claimed that Narwekar’s actions violated the Model Code of Conduct and criticized the destruction of CCTV footage related to the incident.
Sapkal emphasized the importance of constitutional authorities maintaining a non-political stance. He accused Narwekar of intimidating opposition members and misusing his office to ensure his family members’ unopposed election. Sapkal condemned Narwekar’s behavior as disgraceful and highlighted the erosion of democratic principles in the election process.
The Congress leader also raised concerns about alleged corruption involving Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, accusing those in power of being corrupt and avoiding accountability. Sapkal pointed out the lack of action against corrupt officials and criticized the erosion of democratic values in the country. He highlighted the need for fair elections and warned of the severe consequences of undermining the electoral process.
