Congress leader Ashok Gehlot has urged the formation of a high-level scientific committee to look into the surge of cardiac arrests and sudden deaths among young individuals and children in Rajasthan. Gehlot, a former Chief Minister of Rajasthan, emphasized the gravity of the situation highlighted by Leader of the Opposition Tikaram Jully and other MLAs in the Assembly. He expressed concern over the fear and suspicion in society due to the unexpected deaths of seemingly healthy individuals, including doctors.

Referring to global discussions on rare vaccine side effects like thrombosis with thrombocytopenia syndrome (TTS) associated with AstraZeneca’s Covishield, Gehlot mentioned that ongoing international research is exploring the effects of Long COVID and vaccines on the cardiovascular system. Despite recent ICMR reports (July 2025) finding no direct link, Gehlot stressed the need for the government to address public concerns through scientific inquiry. He recalled the announcement during his tenure of establishing a post-COVID rehabilitation center at RUHS in the 2023 state budget to study post-COVID health complications.

Gehlot expressed disappointment that the current government has not taken definitive steps to operationalize the center. He asserted that the situation cannot be dismissed as normal and called for both state and central governments to transcend political boundaries and establish a high-level scientific investigation committee. Gehlot emphasized the people’s right to understand the actual causes behind these deaths to prevent future loss of lives.

Leader of the Opposition Tikaram Jully raised concerns about the reported increase in deaths following vaccination and incidents of children collapsing during exams. While the government attributed these deaths to normal occurrences, Jully demanded a thorough explanation from the Minister. He insisted on a scientific probe to ascertain the reasons behind these fatalities and criticized the government’s performance, accusing it of evading responsibility, withholding information, and misguiding the public. Jully highlighted the government’s failure to implement reforms despite being in power for over two years.
