Senior Congress leader Praveen Chakravarty has acknowledged meeting Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) leader Vijay in Tamil Nadu. He clarified that decisions on political alliances in the state would be made by the Congress high command. Chakravarty described the meeting as a personal interaction and downplayed any political speculations surrounding it.
He emphasized that meeting individuals from various backgrounds was a routine part of his public life. Chakravarty stated that similar interactions occur regularly in different locations, and meeting Vijay should not be sensationalized. The Congress leader clarified his remarks on Tamil Nadu’s financial situation, denying any comparison with Uttar Pradesh.
Chakravarty explained that his comments were based on observations by the Reserve Bank of India about Tamil Nadu’s debt position. He mentioned that there was no political agenda behind his statement and rejected claims of provocation. The Congress leader highlighted the increasing political influence of Vijay in Tamil Nadu and the public’s engagement with him beyond his film star image.
Discussing alliances and power-sharing, Chakravarty noted that demands for more seats and a role in governance were legitimate political aspirations. He stressed that such demands reflected the concerns of Congress workers aiming to revitalize the party. Chakravarty underlined the democratic nature of the Congress, where workers could voice their opinions freely, while reiterating that decisions on alliances rested with the party leadership.
