Congress Legislative Party leader Vijay Wadettiwar criticized the Mahayuti government in the Legislative Assembly for lack of clarity on the terms of the recently announced farm loan waiver scheme of up to Rs 2 lakh. Wadettiwar labeled the government’s announcement as deceptive and accused them of betraying farmers by setting a deadline of September 30, 2025. He raised concerns about the eligibility criteria, broken promises, and the issue of increasing farm debt.
Wadettiwar questioned the fate of farmers with debts exceeding Rs 2 lakh, asking whether the government would directly credit Rs 2 lakh or require farmers to pay the remaining amount first. He highlighted the government’s failure to fulfill its promise of complete debt freedom and criticized the impact of delayed repayments on farmers due to the anticipation of a waiver.
The Congress leader emphasized the challenges faced by paddy growers in Vidarbha, urging for a bonus of Rs 20,000 per hectare and highlighting the shortage of buyers for exhausted paddy procurement quotas. He also criticized the government for allegedly not securing sufficient assistance from the Centre and questioned the delay in releasing funds compared to other states.
Wadettiwar accused the administration of favoring contractors over farmers, pointing out the government’s expenditure on an “AI Agriculture Festival” while farmers continue to struggle. He alleged corruption in the Tapi Valley Lift Irrigation Scheme and raised concerns about irregularities in police recruitment, controversial officer postings, and counterfeit money seizures.
