Amid the BJP government’s efforts against illegal infiltrators in West Bengal, Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury raised concerns about the BJP-led Centre’s past actions. He questioned why the Centre did not address the issue during its three-term regime. Since the BJP took power in Bengal, ‘holding centres’ have been established to temporarily house illegal infiltrators before their return to their home countries.
Chowdhury highlighted the long-standing problem of illegal infiltration in the country. He emphasized the need for transparency regarding the number of infiltrators apprehended and repatriated. The Congress leader urged the government to disclose the figures and fulfill its promises in dealing with this issue.
Questioning the government’s inaction, Chowdhury pointed out the existence of laws like the NRC and questioned why action was not taken earlier. He called on the BJP-led Centre to provide details on the demographic breakdown of infiltrators, including Hindus and Muslims, and the repatriation process. Chowdhury emphasized the importance of ensuring that no infiltrator remains in India.
Stressing the need for transparency, Chowdhury demanded that the government release a White Paper on the number of infiltrators in India. He called for full disclosure of the government’s data on infiltrators and urged for clarity on the repatriation process.
