Congress leader Praveen Chakravarthy has caused a stir in Tamil Nadu by seemingly supporting actor-turned-politician Vijay and his party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), despite the Congress high command’s directive to back the ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK). Chakravarthy’s recent social media post celebrating TVK’s election symbol allocation for the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly polls has raised eyebrows.
The post, which came after a meeting with Vijay at TVK’s office, hinted at a possible realignment away from the DMK, contrary to Congress leadership’s stance. Despite the Congress emphasizing its alliance with the DMK, Chakravarthy’s actions have fueled speculation about the party’s future moves in the state.
Amid growing political uncertainty, the Tamil Nadu Congress Committee president affirmed the party’s commitment to the AICC’s directives and alliance discussions. The ‘Whistle’ symbol, now with TVK, has historical significance, having been used by other independent candidates in previous elections.
