Naga Shaurya is back on the big screen with Bad Boy Karthik, a Telugu action drama that puts family, loyalty, and sacrifice at its centre. Directed by Ramesh Desina and produced under Sri Vaishnavi Films, the film pairs Shaurya with Vidhi Yadav in a story driven by a brother’s fierce determination to protect his sister. With veteran actors like Sai Kumar, Samuthirakani, and Sridevi Vijaykumar in strong supporting roles, and Harris Jayaraj returning to Telugu cinema after a long break, Bad Boy Karthik arrives with genuine anticipation. Does it deliver? Read our full review.

Bad Boy Karthik is a Telugu family entertainer built around sibling bond, action, and emotion. Naga Shaurya brings sincerity to a role that demands both heart and physicality, and the film delivers enough in the second half to make the overall experience worthwhile. A solid one-time watch for fans of commercial Telugu cinema.

Language: Telugu
Genre: Action, Family Drama
Age Rating: U/A (Parental guidance advised for children below 12)
Director: Ramesh Desina
Release Date: April 17, 2026

Plot Summary

Karthik (Naga Shaurya) lives in Vizag with his sister (Sridevi Vijaykumar), a spirited activist who fights for the rights of the underprivileged. When he notices a group of goons targeting her, he quietly begins investigating the threat. Around the same time, Karthik falls for Maha (Vidhi Yadav), the daughter of a police officer (Sai Kumar). When Maha’s father is transferred to Kadiri, Karthik follows — partly for love, but largely to track down Govindappa, the man orchestrating the threats against his sister.

What drives Govindappa and Varadha Reddy to target an activist? And will Karthik succeed in protecting his sister while also guarding his love? The film answers these questions with a mix of sentiment, action, and family drama.

Performances

Naga Shaurya makes a confident return to the big screen. He looks lean, energetic, and in fine form, and brings a quiet intensity to his role as a protective brother. While the character follows a familiar mould, Shaurya’s screen presence and commitment carry the film through its slower stretches.

Sridevi Vijaykumar is a clear standout. Her character is written with purpose and she delivers it with conviction, bringing genuine emotional weight to the sibling dynamic at the heart of the story.

Vidhi Yadav is earnest as Maha. The love track takes time to warm up, but she grows into the role as the film progresses.

Sai Kumar adds dependable gravitas as Maha’s father. Samuthirakani and Mime Gopi make for functional antagonists, and Vennela Kishore provides the comic relief that Telugu mass entertainers are built on. Naresh rounds out the supporting cast steadily.

Technical Craft

Music (Harris Jayaraj): Harris Jayaraj marks his return to Telugu cinema after a long absence, and while not every song lands immediately, there are moments — particularly the emotional brother-sister number in the second half — where his BGM adds quiet power to the sentiment.

Cinematography (Rasool Ellore): The Vizag and Kadiri locations are captured with a warm, lived-in quality that suits the film’s tone.

Editing (Kotagiri Venkateswara Rao): The first half could have been tighter, but the second half finds better rhythm as the core conflict kicks in.

Production (Sri Vaishnavi Films): Production values are functional and serve the story without excess.

Strengths and Weaknesses

Strengths

  • Naga Shaurya’s committed performance anchors the film
  • Sridevi Vijaykumar delivers the most memorable work in the film
  • The sibling sentiment in the second half lands emotionally
  • The interval block and climax action sequences provide the required commercial punch
  • Harris Jayaraj’s background score works well in emotional scenes

Weaknesses

  • The first half is slow and takes time to find its footing
  • The love track lacks the spark to fully engage early on
  • The villain setup could have been layered with more intrigue
  • Vennela Kishore’s comedy track feels stretched in places

Final Verdict: 4/5 ⭐⭐⭐⭐

Bad Boy Karthik is a film that wears its heart on its sleeve. It is built on the timeless Telugu cinema template of family, protection, and justice — and within that frame, it delivers enough warmth, action, and emotion to earn its place. Naga Shaurya proves he still has the screen presence to lead a mass entertainer, and Sridevi Vijaykumar gives the film its soul. The second half, in particular, picks up meaningfully and gives audiences the payoff they came for.

Director Ramesh Desina plays it safe, but the emotional core is genuine. For audiences who enjoy a well-mounted sibling sentiment drama with action, Bad Boy Karthik is a worthwhile theatrical outing.
