Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge and Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi are set to speak at a large farmers’ gathering in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh, on February 23. The event, known as the ‘Kisan Mahapanchayat,’ will kick off the Congress’s nationwide protest against the proposed India-US trade agreement.
Organized at Atal Path in Jawahr Chowk, the convention expects over one lakh farmers from various parts of Madhya Pradesh to attend. The program will commence at 2 pm with the arrival of Kharge and Gandhi in Bhopal, featuring two large domes and a grand stage for around 250 leaders and officials.
This gathering holds significant importance for Congress workers in the state, aiming to catalyze change in Madhya Pradesh. Congress MLA Umang Singhar highlighted concerns about soybean farmers facing price pressures and cotton growers in Malwa and Nimar regions experiencing potential losses.
The ‘Kisan Mahapanchayat’ is designed to support farmers and raise awareness about what the Congress perceives as detrimental aspects of the trade deal. AICC general secretary Harish Choudhary recently engaged with local traders to discuss the implications of the India-US trade pact.
