Congress MLA Anubha Munjare criticized the BJP-led Madhya Pradesh government during a special session of the state Assembly. She highlighted concerns regarding women’s safety, administrative inaction, and challenges faced by elected representatives. Munjare specifically mentioned an ongoing protest in Balaghat city where women have been demonstrating against a liquor shop near an ancient Durga temple for nearly 20 days.
Munjare expressed disappointment in the district administration’s lack of response to the protesters’ demands despite the prolonged agitation. She emphasized the importance of ensuring the safety of women, stating that neglecting their security renders slogans like ‘Nari Shakti’ meaningless. The Congress MLA also raised a personal issue regarding the withdrawal of her Personal Assistant without explanation, which she has been trying to address for the past six months.
The legislator criticized the government for failing to bridge the gap between its public messaging and the ground realities. Munjare highlighted the disconnect between the government’s rhetoric on women’s empowerment and the actual challenges faced by women at the grassroots level. She also voiced support for 33% reservation for women in Parliament under the ‘Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam’ and accused the Centre of politicizing the issue by creating a false narrative about the Opposition obstructing its implementation.
