Congress MP Rakibul Hussain has accused Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma of launching verbal attacks against him following his significant win over AIUDF chief Badruddin Ajmal in the Dhubri Lok Sabha constituency. Hussain stated that the animosity began immediately after his victory by a substantial margin of nearly 10 lakh votes. He mentioned that his previously amicable relationship with Sarma took a negative turn after the election results.
Hussain claimed that the defeat of Ajmal disrupted the Chief Minister’s political narrative, leading to increased hostility towards him. He alleged that Sarma, facing resistance in Upper Assam from communities like the Moran, Matak, and tea tribes, is now attempting to realign politically with Ajmal to strengthen the BJP’s position. The Congress MP also accused the Chief Minister of influencing the outcome of the Samaguri Assembly by-election, claiming manipulation despite it being his stronghold.
Hussain further alleged that Ajmal, reportedly residing outside the state, was brought back by Sarma for electoral purposes, insinuating a strategic alliance between the two. He criticized the Chief Minister for allegedly needing Ajmal’s influence to secure victory in the upcoming Assembly elections. Hussain expressed confidence in the Congress party’s ability to regain the Samaguri seat with a significant majority in the next election.
