Congress MP Dharamvira Gandhi criticized the government for diverting attention from the ongoing conflict involving Iran, the United States, and Israel. Gandhi emphasized the need for discussions on the West Asia developments over other parliamentary matters. He expressed concerns about India aligning with the USA-Israel axis, abandoning long-standing allies like Iran and Russia.
Gandhi accused Prime Minister Modi of prioritizing new friendships with the USA and Israel while neglecting relationships with Iran and Russia. He highlighted the USA’s imposition of restrictions on India without consent, despite insults and unilateral trade deals. Gandhi also condemned the NDA government’s silence on recent events in Iran, urging a focus on critical global issues.
The conflict in West Asia, triggered by joint US-Israeli strikes on Iran on February 28, has entered its 11th day, raising regional instability concerns. External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar informed Parliament about Prime Minister Modi’s close monitoring of the situation, given the significant Indian population in Gulf countries. Jaishankar detailed the escalation of tensions following the strikes, leading to widespread repercussions across the region.
Jaishankar further disclosed that the Cabinet Committee on Security, under PM Modi’s leadership, had evaluated the challenges faced by Indian residents and travelers in the region. The review highlighted the impact of US-Israeli strikes on Iran, resulting in casualties among senior Iranian leaders and escalating tensions across multiple countries in West Asia.
