Congress MP and Assam Pradesh Congress Committee President Gaurav Gogoi addressed controversies surrounding his past visit to Pakistan, emphasizing that it was a personal trip related to his wife’s professional commitments shortly after their marriage. He clarified that the visit was for an international program involving NGOs from various countries, including India and Pakistan. Gogoi denied any involvement in questionable meetings during the visit, dismissing attempts to create false narratives.
Gogoi criticized the Assam government, accusing it of misusing officials and Special Investigation Teams (SITs) to further Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma’s political interests. He expressed concerns about the credibility and independence of these investigative bodies, alleging that they were being manipulated for political purposes rather than seeking justice. Gogoi highlighted discrepancies in reports from different SITs, raising doubts about their functioning and impartiality.
The Congress leader underscored the importance of upholding constitutional institutions and warned against the politicization of administrative machinery. He urged for a focus on governance issues instead of diverting attention through what he described as manufactured controversies. Gogoi emphasized the need for transparency and accountability in the functioning of investigative bodies to ensure justice and fairness for the people of Assam.
