The Congress party has announced Bhrugurajsinh Chauhan as its candidate for the upcoming Gujarat Assembly by-election in the Umreth constituency. Chauhan, who has held various roles within the Gujarat Pradesh Congress Committee, has been approved by Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge.
Chauhan’s experience includes serving as the Coordinator of the GPCC Central Zone since 2025 and as Pradesh Pratinidhi from 2020 to 2025. He has also been assigned roles such as PCC in-charge for specific constituencies in recent years.
Moreover, Chauhan has a history of local leadership, having been the President of the Umreth Taluka Panchayat for three consecutive terms from 2000 to 2015. His involvement extends to positions in various organizations and committees within the region.
The by-election in Umreth was necessitated by the vacancy left after the passing of BJP MLA Govind Parmar. Scheduled for April 23, with vote counting on May 4, the election will see Chauhan contesting against BJP’s candidate, Harshad Parmar, who is the son of the late MLA and currently holds positions in local governance.
