Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge criticized the government for the recent increase in petrol and diesel prices, accusing them of burdening the public to mask policy failures. This criticism follows state-run oil companies raising fuel prices twice within a week due to escalating global crude oil prices.
Kharge, on a social media platform, expressed discontent with the government’s decision, highlighting the swift recurrence of price hikes. He emphasized the government’s attempt to shift the consequences of its failures onto the citizens, despite earlier promises of frugality.
In addition to the fuel price issue, Kharge targeted Prime Minister Narendra Modi on India’s oil imports and foreign policy. He criticized Modi for seeking extensions to purchase Russian oil, suggesting that such actions compromise India’s self-respect on the global stage.
Kharge further questioned the government’s justification for the price hike, pointing out the disconnect between official permissions and the continued burden on the common people. He accused the ruling BJP of lacking vision and effective leadership in managing the economic challenges faced by the country.
Continuing his critique, Kharge emphasized the need for tangible actions over mere public relations campaigns to address the ongoing crisis. He urged accountability from the government, emphasizing the public’s demand for concrete solutions rather than superficial distractions.
