The Congress party has highlighted issues with the electoral roll revision process, citing the misuse of Form-7 applications to delete voters’ names. Congress General Secretary K.C. Venugopal has written to the Chief Election Commissioner, urging immediate action to prevent unfair electoral advantages through such practices. Venugopal emphasized the need for strict vigilance and real-time supervision to avoid arbitrary or malicious deletions of eligible voters.
Allegations have been made regarding the targeted disenfranchisement of voters in 12 states where intensive revision of electoral rolls is underway. Venugopal called for the identification of individuals, including members of the ruling regime, who are allegedly misusing Form-7 applications for voter deletions. The Congress leader also requested the Election Commission to make detailed data on Form-7 applications public for transparency and electoral integrity.
In his letter, Venugopal urged the Election Commission to address the matter urgently and ensure the integrity of upcoming state elections. He proposed that the ECI utilize its powers under Article 324 of the Constitution to investigate instances of misuse of Form-7 applications and voter deletion mechanisms. Venugopal emphasized the importance of enforcing clear guidelines and accountability mechanisms to prevent misuse and maintain electoral transparency.
