Mob Lynching of Migrant Worker in Kerala Sparks Outrage
The Congress party criticized the Pinarayi Vijayan government for the mob lynching of a Chhattisgarh migrant worker in Palakkad, Kerala. They demanded swift action against the culprits and fair compensation for the victim’s family. The victim, Ramnarayan Baghel, was mistaken for a Bangladeshi national and fatally attacked.
Congress MP KC Venugopal condemned the Kerala government for failing to control the violent group that killed the laborer. Ramnarayan Baghel, aged 31 and from Sakti district, had moved to Kerala for better job opportunities but tragically met his end in a brutal assault by a mob in Palakkad.
A video circulating on social media showed Ramnarayan bleeding from severe head and body injuries, triggering widespread online anger. Despite his attempts to reason with the attackers, they continued the assault, labeling him as Bangladeshi. The Congress General Secretary criticized the state government for its inadequate response to the incident and the deteriorating law and order situation.
Referring to a similar 2018 case where a tribal youth named Madhu was lynched, the Congress leader highlighted the recurring mob violence in Kerala. He lamented the loss of innocent lives due to suspicion and misinformation, emphasizing the need for swift justice and prevention of such incidents.
