Congress spokesperson Dr. Shama Mohamed called on Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy to address the assault on a school principal in Nizamabad district by BJP leaders regarding Urdu teaching. A video surfaced showing the teacher being attacked by BJP members at the school, with police present. Mohamed demanded the suspension of the involved police officials and strict punishment for the BJP members responsible.
The incident occurred at Bharath Chandra School in Armoor, Nizamabad district, where BJP leaders physically and verbally assaulted the principal, Amer Khan, for introducing Urdu classes. Allegedly, the BJP leaders objected to Urdu being taught as a second language, citing exposure to Urdu songs and religious content by their children. Khan claimed that despite being assaulted, no action was taken against the perpetrators.
Amer Khan revealed that Urdu was added as a second language based on parental requests, with a dedicated teacher hired for the purpose. Plans were underway to establish a separate block for the Urdu department, but miscommunication led to a combined class being conducted. Following the incident, various groups have called for a shutdown in Nizamabad district as a form of protest against the assault.
