Congress workers in Varanasi celebrated the 56th birthday of Rahul Gandhi, Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, in a unique manner on Friday. They portrayed him as ‘Lord Parashuram,’ performed rituals by the Ganges, cut a laddoo cake, and displayed his image holding a copy of the Constitution. However, the celebration faced criticism from the BJP for depicting a political leader as a deity.
Youth Congress leader Vikas Singh mentioned that they gathered by the Ganges where Brahmins chanted Vedic mantras and prayed for Rahul Gandhi’s well-being. In response, Uttar Pradesh Minister Anil Rajbhar criticized the Congress and its workers, questioning their actions and intentions. He accused the Congress of adopting religious symbolism only during elections.
Anil Rajbhar further alleged that the Congress engages in religious acts during elections but questions the existence of God later on. Rajya Sabha MP Dinesh Sharma also objected to the celebration, stating that while offering milk is understandable, portraying a human as a god is inappropriate. He emphasized that politicians should refrain from such comparisons and acts.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended birthday wishes to Rahul Gandhi, expressing hopes for his good health and longevity. Rahul Gandhi, a senior Congress leader and Member of Parliament from Rae Bareli, turned 56 on Friday. Born on June 19, 1970, he is the son of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi and former Congress President Sonia Gandhi.
