In a significant development for the restoration of the Yamuna River, a meeting led by Union Home Minister Amit Shah successfully garnered agreement among six states regarding the Kishau Multipurpose Dam Project situated on the Uttarakhand-Himachal Pradesh border.
The meeting concluded that 90% of the water component’s expenses for the Kishau Multipurpose Dam Project will be covered by the Central Government as Central Assistance, with the remaining 10% to be divided among the six participating states. Additionally, it was agreed to assign Himachal Pradesh’s water share to Delhi and Rajasthan in exchange for their contribution towards Himachal Pradesh’s power component costs.
This decision marks a significant step towards a cleaner and revitalized Yamuna, ensuring a higher volume of clean water flow in the river. The states of Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, and Rajasthan have all consented to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the execution of the Kishau Multipurpose Project following the initiative of the Home Minister.
The project will be presented to the Union Cabinet for approval subsequent to the signing of the MoU. The meeting was graced by the presence of Union Minister of Power Manohar Lal Khattar, Union Minister of Jal Shakti C. R. Patil, Chief Ministers of Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand, along with various other key officials from relevant ministries and departments.
Under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Central government has been actively implementing the ‘Solutions Through Dialogue’ approach by fostering consensus on crucial matters of national and public interest that have remained unresolved for an extended period.
