The Central Consumer Protection Authority (CCPA) has fined Motion Education Private Limited and Career Line Coaching (CLC) for deceptive advertising practices. Motion Education faces a penalty of Rs 10 lakh, while Career Line Coaching (CLC) in Sikar has been fined Rs 5 lakh. The CCPA found that both institutes exaggerated student success rates in exams like IIT-JEE and NEET, concealing crucial details about the courses attended by successful students.
The penalties were imposed by the CCPA, led by Chief Commissioner Nidhi Khare and Commissioner Anupam Mishra, to safeguard consumer rights and ensure transparency in the coaching industry. Motion Education was scrutinized for ads on its website, YouTube, Instagram, and newspapers. The institute boasted about high success rates in exams but failed to disclose that some students were part of a free special batch, not their paid programs.
The investigation revealed that Motion Education used students’ names and photos without proper consent and failed to provide evidence for its claims. Similarly, Career Line Coaching (CLC) in Sikar was found to have misleading advertisements regarding student achievements. The institute showcased successful students without clarifying if they were part of full-time coaching or test series programs. The CCPA ordered both institutes to cease deceptive ads and ensure transparency in their promotional materials.
