A controversy has arisen in Jamtara district, Jharkhand, following the deaths of a pregnant woman and her newborn due to alleged medical negligence. The incident led to protests, vandalism at the district hospital, a doctors’ strike, and the filing of an FIR against several BJP leaders.
Local residents expressed anger by vandalizing the Jamtara Sadar Hospital premises and blocking a key road for hours after the tragic deaths. In response, doctors and healthcare workers initiated an indefinite strike in the district.
The hospital authorities filed an FIR against eight individuals for obstructing government work and damaging public property. Additionally, several unidentified persons were also accused in connection with the incident.
The controversy began with the demise of 22-year-old Reena Devi and her newborn in Jamtara town. Allegations of negligence in treatment and delays in providing a government ambulance have fueled the outrage among family members and locals.
