The Counter-Intelligence Kashmir wing conducted a raid at the Central Jail in Srinagar regarding a terror-related case. Officials mentioned that the search operation was carried out under a warrant issued by a special court designated under the NIA Act. The raid resulted in the seizure of digital communication devices from the jail premises.
Acting on technical inputs, the CIK sleuths searched multiple barracks and blocks within the jail premises in coordination with the authorities. During the operation, various digital communication devices and other potentially incriminating materials were found and confiscated. These seized items will undergo forensic examination to establish potential links and identify any broader network associated with the case.
The operation aims to prevent the misuse of communication devices in sensitive establishments like prisons and investigate terror-related activities in the Union Territory. The Counter-Intelligence, a part of the J&K criminal investigation case (CID) of the police, is responsible for counter-intelligence tasks. Over the years, the wing has effectively countered threats against the country’s sovereignty and integrity, including verifying individuals suspected of having terror connections.
