A court in Andhra Pradesh’s Vizianagaram district has sent a journalist from Telangana to judicial custody for 14 days. The journalist, known as K. Venkatarami Reddy (KVR), was arrested by Andhra Pradesh Police in Hyderabad for allegedly making objectionable comments against Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu and Deputy CM Pawan Kalyan.
KVR, a YouTuber and political analyst, was booked by police in Vizianagaram district based on a complaint by a former sarpanch, Kandi Ramesh of Badangi, for inappropriate remarks about various political figures. Despite being served with notices, KVR failed to appear, leading to his arrest in Hyderabad and subsequent production before the court.
Another YouTuber, Prashna Ravan, was also arrested for derogatory remarks against Deputy CM Pawan Kalyan and faced a similar situation. Tension arose at the police station as supporters of Jana Sena protested and demanded Ravan’s release. The Deputy CM, Pawan Kalyan, issued a video statement supporting the police action and warned against the misuse of social media.
