A senior CPI(M) leader, G. Sudhakaran, has decided to contest the upcoming Assembly election as an Independent candidate from Ambalappuzha constituency, causing minimal concern within the party. Fisheries Minister Saji Cherian expressed disappointment over Sudhakaran’s choice, emphasizing the significant roles the party had entrusted to him over the years.
Cherian, who also belongs to Alappuzha district like Sudhakaran, reassured that the party’s strong organizational structure would prevent any substantial electoral repercussions from the defection. He affirmed that party members would remain loyal and united, standing by the party’s principles.
Despite organized protests against Sudhakaran in Alappuzha, including demonstrations and critical posters, Cherian acknowledged the discontent among party workers, indicating ongoing tensions. The minister disclosed that Sudhakaran’s decision to run independently had been brewing for some time, despite attempts by top leaders to address his concerns.
Cherian remained optimistic, stating that Sudhakaran’s move would not adversely affect the party’s performance in Alappuzha or across the state.
