CPI(M) MP John Brittas accused the Enforcement Directorate (ED) of engaging in a “political vendetta” during searches related to the CMRL-Exalogic case, including at former Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan’s residence in Thiruvananthapuram. Brittas stated that Vijayan has faced scrutiny from central agencies and highlighted past instances of alleged mistreatment. He also criticized the narrative on conviction rates, pointing out the discrepancy between cases taken to court and those pending.
Brittas further claimed that both the BJP and Congress are implicated in the process, citing instances involving other political figures. The ED’s focus on Vijayan intensified as agency officials visited his residence and recorded statements from individuals connected to the case. While Vijayan has not been interrogated yet, it is anticipated that his statement may be sought as the investigation progresses.
The ED’s operation, which commenced early in the morning following a court ruling, involved searches at various locations in Kerala, including Vijayan’s rented residence and offices linked to the case. The investigation centers on alleged financial transactions between CMRL and Exalogic, with key figures like Vijayan’s daughter, Veena Vijayan, under scrutiny.
