Inspections of over 2,500 food establishments in Gujarat resulted in the disposal of 700 kg of food as authorities enforced new paneer labeling rules. The Food and Drug Regulatory Authority conducted a special drive to ensure proper identification and disclosure of paneer and cheese products in various food service units. During the drive, 270 notices were issued for violations, with 18 establishments being sealed or closed.

Authorities collected penalties totaling Rs 2,84,300 and destroyed 703 kg of unfit food. As part of the crackdown, 95 samples were sent for laboratory analysis, and Food Safety Vans tested 679 samples on-site. Officials clarified that analogue paneer is an alternative to dairy paneer, warning against mislabeling. Penalties and legal actions are being taken against violators, with ongoing strict enforcement planned.

The crackdown follows a directive mandating clear display of paneer type in eateries, distinguishing between milk-based and analogue products. Establishments are required to prominently show the nature of paneer served to avoid misleading consumers. Gujarat Health Minister emphasized the importance of accurate labeling, with businesses now obligated to differentiate analogue products on menus or display boards. Non-compliance will lead to penalties and legal consequences under food safety laws.
