The North Eastern Council (NEC) will convene in Shillong on June 4, with Union Home Minister Amit Shah expected to chair the meeting. Jyotiraditya Scindia, the Vice-Chairman of NEC, will also be in attendance. Governors and Chief Ministers from all eight Northeastern states will participate in this significant gathering, which focuses on coordinating development efforts in the region.

A recent post by NEC highlighted the upcoming meeting’s importance in discussing growth, connectivity, and sustainable development in the Northeast. Mizoram Governor General (Dr) Vijay Kumar Singh (Retd) conducted a review meeting in Aizawl to prepare for the 73rd NEC Plenary Session in Shillong. Emphasizing the government’s commitment to Northeastern states’ development, he urged effective representation of Mizoram’s priorities and developmental needs at the session.

During the review, detailed updates on Mizoram-related decisions from the previous NEC Plenary were presented. Various projects, including infrastructure and socio-economic development initiatives funded by NEC, were discussed. The meeting also addressed key proposals for the NEC Plenary Session, focusing on Mizoram’s welfare, infrastructure, and economic progress. Officials, including Principal Secretary Sudhir Kumar, were actively involved in the discussions.
