Customs officials at Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport in New Delhi intercepted two Thai nationals arriving from Bangkok on flight AI-2356 after they bypassed the Customs Green Channel. Acting on specific profiling inputs, officers examined the passengers’ baggage and discovered six vacuum-sealed packets suspected to contain Hydroponic Weed.
The seizure included four packets weighing about 29 kg from one passenger’s baggage and two packets weighing around 19 kg from the other passenger. The total quantity of the suspected narcotic substance seized was approximately 47.805 kg, valued at Rs 48 crore. This marks one of the most significant seizures at IGI Airport recently.
Both passengers were apprehended immediately after crossing the Green Channel, meant for passengers without dutiable or prohibited goods. The Customs authorities seized the consignment under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, detaining both individuals for further inquiry. Investigations are ongoing to determine the source, destination, and broader network involved in the smuggling attempt.
Authorities are also looking into possible links between the seized narcotics and an international trafficking syndicate operating through Southeast Asian routes.
