Dacoit Jagan Gurjar, who was killed in Ajmer High-Security Jail on June 29, was laid to rest in his hometown of Bhavutipura in Dholpur’s Dang region. The funeral took place with stringent security measures in place. Jagan’s son, Asaram, performed the last rites, while his three incarcerated brothers, Pan Singh, Lal Singh, and Pappu Singh, were temporarily released under heavy security to attend.
Security was tight during the cremation ceremony, with about 100 police officers ensuring order. The village of Bhavutipura was heavily guarded, with police personnel from nine stations deployed in the area. Additional SP Shravan Kumar and Circle Officer Mahendra Kumar oversaw the security arrangements personally.
Jagan Gurjar’s family alleged that he was murdered inside the jail by another inmate. Following the incident, the family protested, citing negligence by the jail authorities. After discussions with officials, the family consented to a post-mortem examination before the body was released. Jagan’s son, Asaram, lit the funeral pyre after his brothers were escorted back to prison under police supervision.
The murder of Jagan Gurjar has sparked concerns about the security protocols at Ajmer High-Security Jail. An investigation revealed that CCTV footage showed Jagan and the accused interacting normally before the incident. However, attempts to tamper with evidence, such as smearing toothpaste on a camera and hanging a towel from a fan, raised suspicions of foul play. A magisterial inquiry has been initiated to probe the circumstances of the killing and assess any security lapses.
