Daughter-in-law and sister of Padma Vibhushan awardee Teejan Bai expressed sorrow over her passing, recalling how she managed the family singlehandedly. Teejan Bai, the legendary Pandwani singer, passed away at AIIMS Raipur after battling severe health issues. Venu Deshmukh, Teejan Bai’s daughter-in-law, highlighted the singer’s pivotal role in the family, mentioning her inability to speak in recent years.
The family, deeply affected by Teejan Bai’s demise, shared that her health had deteriorated in the days leading up to her passing. Despite initial recovery, her condition worsened after being moved out of the ICU. Teejan Bai’s younger sister reflected on her silence in the last three years, communicating solely through sign language. Efforts to revive her proved futile, leading to a somber acceptance of her passing.
Leaders nationwide, including President Droupadi Murmu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and Union Home Minister Amit Shah, mourned Teejan Bai’s loss. Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai paid his respects at AIIMS Raipur upon hearing the news of the legendary singer’s demise.
