The death toll from flash floods and landslides in Nagaland’s Mon district has reached 10 due to continuous rainfall. Search and rescue operations are ongoing, with five bodies already recovered and efforts underway to find the remaining five victims. Among the deceased, three are women.
Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio visited the affected Defence Colony area in Mon district to assess the situation. He expressed condolences to the affected families and praised the response efforts by volunteers, civil society organizations, and various forces. Rio emphasized the need to adhere to safety regulations during construction in landslide-prone areas.
Rio provided immediate relief by offering Rs 10 lakh for emergency use to civil society organizations and assured further assistance to those affected. The Konyak Union, along with legislators, expressed sympathy to the affected families and showcased the extensive damage caused by the landslides. Rescue and relief operations involving multiple agencies have been ongoing despite challenging weather conditions.
Mon town is currently isolated due to road blockages, and the government has announced relief measures for the affected families. Chief Minister Rio has offered financial aid to the families of the deceased and injured, along with essential support and assistance across impacted districts.
