The death toll in Rajahmundry city, Andhra Pradesh, has reached 13 following milk adulteration, with another person succumbing to acute renal failure. Bandaru Veeralaxmi, aged 60, passed away while receiving treatment at a hospital, bringing the total deaths to 13. The incident originated when a resident of Swaroopnagar area fell ill after consuming adulterated milk on February 16, leading to acute renal failure.
Seven individuals, including three infants, are currently fighting for their lives due to acute renal failure caused by the consumption of contaminated milk. The affected residents hail from Chowdeswaranagar and Swaroopanagar areas of Lalacheruvu, where people fell sick after consuming milk supplied by the same vendor. East Godavari District Collector Kirthi Chekuri reported that 20 individuals suffered from acute renal failure after consuming milk tainted with Ethylene Glycol.
The investigation revealed that the milk adulteration incident was linked to a vendor named Ganeswara Rao alias Ganesh, who collected milk from 43 farmers in Narasapuram village. Ganesh stored the milk in a freezer at his residence, later distributing it to residents in Chaudeswaranagar and Swaroopnagar areas. Upon complaints about the milk’s taste, Ganesh discovered a leak in the freezer, which was subsequently repaired. Subsequent forensic reports confirmed that the victims died due to acute renal failure from consuming milk contaminated with toxic Ethylene Glycol.
