The death toll in the tragic building collapse in Kotma town, Madhya Pradesh, has reached three as rescuers found the body of a woman in the debris. The incident, involving the collapse of a four-storey lodge known as Agarwal Lodge, occurred on Saturday near the Kotma bus stand. Eyewitnesses described hearing an explosion-like sound followed by dust clouds.
Rescue operations, involving teams like the NDRF and SDRF, have been ongoing for over 18 hours, with at least five people rescued from the rubble. Unfortunately, three individuals have died, and the rest are receiving medical care. Some individuals are still feared trapped, with varying estimates in early reports.
Local residents have pointed out a 12-foot-deep pit near the collapsed building, suspecting that water accumulation in the pit may have weakened the lodge’s foundation. Officials are considering the impact of nearby construction work on the incident. Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav has directed swift rescue efforts, with NDRF teams mobilized promptly.
