Defence Minister Rajnath Singh highlighted the government’s focus on defence research, with the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) transferring 2,200 technologies to industries. He stressed the need for sustained research to stay prepared in the rapidly evolving technological landscape. Singh mentioned allocating 25% of the defence R&D budget to industry, academia, and start-ups, amounting to over Rs 4,500 crore utilization.
Singh pointed out the swift technological advancements in warfare, citing the shift from traditional weapons to drones and sensors. He urged a proactive approach to build capabilities for unexpected strikes if necessary. The minister also announced a new Transfer of Technology policy, waiving the earlier fee for certain partners and granting free access to DRDO’s patents for Indian industries.
The government’s support for industries in areas like Directed Energy Weapons, Hypersonic Weapons, and Artificial Intelligence was emphasized by Singh. He praised Operation Sindoor as a testament to technological warfare readiness, showcasing indigenous advanced missile systems. The minister highlighted the record high domestic defence production and exports, attributing it to the government’s self-reliance efforts.
